Debt Counseling
Debt counseling can help you control your finances. What debt counselingcannot do is help you control your anger.
Debt Counseling
Recently, Jose Canseco and his brother Ozzie were involved in a lawsuit over a fight in a Miami bar. The fight began after his date that night said she was "groped" by one of the men who sued Canseco. What's this got to do with debt counseling? Plenty.
Who Needs Debt Counseling?
Jose Canseco, that's who! He only has $43,000 in his bank account, and according to the South Florida Sun Sentinal on April 27, 2005, he "said he spends about $30,000-a-month to keep up the lifestyle that comes with being the first human to hit 40 home runs and steal 40 bases in a single baseball season." He also has child support to pay to the tune of $4,000 a month, and he has to pay $6,000 a month to drive the Rolls Royce that he's leasing. Oh--and he lost the aforementioned lawsuit and has to pay the plaintiff $1 million. Sounds like someone could use some credit and debt counseling (as well as some fielding practice - look out for that noggin, Jose!)
Canseco admits to living beyond his means, but he could use a little debt counseling, too. Debt counseling can teach you how to live within your means through budgeting. And if you have unrealistic expectations about what you "need" to survive, consumer debt counseling can bring you back down to earth. Debt counseling can also teach you how to save for the future. That way, when you're slammed with an unexpected lawsuit for fighting in a bar, you're financially prepared to pay for your behavior. Even if you want to take a more spiritual approach, you can look into Christian debt counseling, too!
Usually, debt counseling is suggested to people going through a debt management program like debt consolidation. But you don't have to be deep in debt to get this kind of help. You can just be worried that you're headed down the wrong path with your finances. Credit counseling is pretty amazing, but it can't help you with anger management issues. Sorry, Jose!
